Flames Look to End Home Skid Against Kraken
Home hasn’t exactly been sweet for either the Calgary Flames or the Seattle Kraken.
The Flames have dropped three straight games at the Saddledome and four of their last five at home, slipping out of the second and final wild-card playoff spot in the Western Conference. Calgary will look to reverse that trend when they host Seattle on Saturday.

Calgary is coming off a 4-2 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, despite a strong 30-save performance from goaltender Dustin Wolf.
“We try to work as hard as we can,” said forward Jonathan Huberdeau, who netted his team-leading 21st goal in the defeat. “(It) was not our best game, but I think we know we’re capable of way more. Obviously, it’s not a good time to lose a couple in a row, but we’ve got one more (before the 4 Nations Face-Off break), come back and play hard.”
Defenseman MacKenzie Weegar extended his point streak to four games (0 goals, 5 assists) with an assist on Thursday but noted that the Flames need to elevate their intensity.
“I just thought the energy was a little low. Just another opportunity for us to make our mark in the standings, and it just wasn’t there,” Weegar said. “We’ve got to get back to committing to doing the hard work out there, the stuff nobody really likes to do but it’s important … grinding down low in the corners, backchecking hard, staying on top of checks.”
Kraken Looking to Regain Momentum
Seattle is also struggling at home, finishing a disappointing 1-3-1 homestand. The Kraken are 11 points back in the wild-card race and have trailed by multiple goals in each of their past three contests. That trend continued in their 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Head coach Dan Bylsma was frustrated with his team’s inability to generate high-quality scoring opportunities, as the Kraken recorded 27 shots but only managed 11 legitimate scoring chances.
“That’s not enough,” Bylsma said. “I think at times, we’ve been better at having a shooting mentality and getting guys around the blue paint. I think you can expect to get the pretty goals every now and again, but you’ve got to get a little hungry and a little dirtier to score the everyday goals.”
Seattle captain Jordan Eberle took another step forward in his recovery from pelvic surgery, participating in the morning skate in a regular jersey Thursday. However, he has yet to return to game action and is expected back after the 4 Nations Face-Off.
“I’ll just call them baby steps at this time,” Bylsma said of Eberle’s progress. “It’s great for the group. It’s great for ‘Ebs.’ His leadership in that room is a big part of it…getting him back on the ice means we’re a little closer to getting him back.”
Recent Matchup
The Flames and Kraken last met on Sunday in Seattle, with Calgary storming to a three-goal lead in the first period before holding on for a 3-2 victory. Yegor Sharangovich had a goal and an assist for the Flames, while Morgan Frost scored his first goal with Calgary since being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Can Calgary End Their Home Struggles?
Both teams are in desperate need of a turnaround, but the Flames will have the added pressure of playing in front of their home fans. Can they snap their skid, or will Seattle find a way to steal two points on the road?
