Golden Knights Look to Rebound Against Playoff-Hungry Flames

The Vegas Golden Knights head into Calgary on Saturday to open a critical three-game road trip, desperate to rediscover their winning form after back-to-back home losses stalled their late-season surge.

Vegas (45-22-8, 98 points) had rattled off six straight wins before hitting a wall this week. A tight 3-2 loss to Edmonton was followed by a flat 4-0 defeat to Winnipeg, cutting their cushion over the Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific Division to just three points.

“We had a really good stretch of hockey, and now we’ve lost two in a row… You can feel sorry for yourselves, or you can pick yourself off the mat,”

– Golden Knights captain Mark Stone on bouncing back against Calgary.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy didn’t mince words after Thursday’s shutout loss, pointing to his team’s style of play as a concern heading into the final stretch.

“We’ve got to get that part of our game in order… The style of play we need to play, to excel if we want to get to where we want to go. It’s that simple,”

– Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy on Thursday’s poor performance.

Vegas will need to respond quickly, especially with a road-heavy schedule to close out the season. And they won’t have an easy opponent in the Calgary Flames.

The Flames (36-27-12, 84 points) are fighting tooth and nail to stay alive in the Western Conference playoff race. They sit five points behind the Minnesota Wild for the final wild-card spot, with a game in hand and seven games left to play. Thursday’s 4-1 win over Anaheim was a crucial morale boost, led by a two-goal performance from Blake Coleman.

“It was a game we needed. We need them all… Guys showed up, played well, a good home game,”

– Flames forward Blake Coleman on Thursday’s win.

Nazem Kadri echoed the urgency in the locker room, emphasizing the belief still present in the group despite the uphill climb.
