Four different players scored for Edmonton in the win. After the Flames tied it at 2-2, Zach Hyman put the Oilers ahead for good with a goal at 9:50 in the third period.
Edmonton’s offense was highlighted by Leon Draisaitl, who scored his 9th goal and added two assists, bringing his assist total to 8 on the season. Zach Hyman found the net for the 3rd time this year, with his second goal coming on a power play. The Oilers’ final goal was an empty-netter by Mattias Janmark, his 2nd of the season.
Edmonton took 31 shots on goal and scored twice in the first period before being held scoreless in the second. They added two more goals in the third period, including Hyman’s power-play goal with 9:50 left in the game.
Defensively, the Oilers gave up the first two goals of the game, one at 4:33 into the 2nd period and the other at 4:28 into the 3rd. Stuart Skinner finished with 29 saves and a 93.5% save percentage, while the Oilers’ defense added 25 blocks and 2 takeaways.

- Edmonton has put together a record of 3-7 in their last ten games (regular season). The team’s record vs the puck line was just 2-8, in addition to an over-under mark of 6-4.
The Hurricanes Can Win If…
Carolina improved to 34-21-4 with a 4-2 road win over the Capitals. The Hurricanes covered the puck line as -1.5 goal favorites, and the total of 6 goals matched the pre-game line.
After taking a 1-0 lead, Carolina allowed two goals in the first period. They responded with three unanswered goals, including an empty-netter, to secure the win.
Carolina took 45 shots on goal in their 4-2 win over the Capitals, with Dmitry Orlov scoring twice on his three shots. Martin Necas, who now has 12 assists this season, added another goal, his sixth of the year. Andrei Svechnikov also netted his sixth goal, scoring on an empty net with nine seconds left in the game.
After Orlov’s first-period goal, the Hurricanes added two more in the second, including Necas’ sixth of the season. Orlov’s second goal came in the second period as well.
After giving up two late goals in the first period, the Hurricanes’ defense tightened up, shutting out the Capitals in the second and third periods. Pyotr Kochetkov finished with 19 saves and a 90.5% save percentage, while Carolina’s defense added 7 takeaways and 10 hits.

The Lean
When making a moneyline pick, my choice is the Hurricanes to come out with a win against the Oilers while playing at home. Considering the moneyline odds at -136, I’m placing my bet on the Hurricanes to win outright.
When making a puck line pick, we’re backing the Hurricanes to win and cover. Watch for the Hurricanes to win this game by multiple goals over the Oilers.
For those assessing the over/under line set at 6.5 goals, our expectation is that this game will stay below that mark, and we suggest making a bet on the under.
Oilers Seek to End Five-Game Slide, Wrap Trip at Hurricanes
The Edmonton Oilers hope to end their five-game road trip on a positive note Saturday when they play the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C.
The defending Western Conference champions have lost a season-worst five straight, with the last four coming since play resumed a week ago. That includes a 4-3 road loss Thursday to the Florida Panthers in a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Final.
Oilers Struggling to Find Answers
Coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters afterward that he felt it was the team’s best performance over the past five games. However, he didn’t mince words regarding effort.
“I thought we had some pretty good performances by some guys, but to get out of a funk like this, where things aren’t going well and guys are really feeling it or really squeezing their sticks, we need everybody,” he said. “I felt that there were a few passengers. There were some guys that just didn’t put in the effort that we needed.”
Defense has been an issue during the skid as the Oilers have been outscored 26-14. The defense could be an even bigger concern after Darnell Nurse missed Thursday’s game with an undisclosed injury. According to Oilers TV, the 10-year veteran did not participate at the beginning of the team’s practice Friday afternoon in Raleigh, but he did skate toward the end.
Leon Draisaitl, who leads the league with 44 goals, has scored six during the losing streak, which has coincided with the forward’s seven-game goal streak. That is tied for the sixth-longest run in team history. It’s also part of a 10-game overall point streak.
Even with the losing streak, the Oilers remain in second place in the Pacific Division, and with 72 points, they’re only four points behind the division-leading Vegas Golden Knights entering Friday.
Hurricanes Finding Their Rhythm
Saturday’s game could be a preview of who will be playing in June, as Edmonton remains the consensus favorite among sportsbooks to win the Stanley Cup, and Carolina, which snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-2 home win Thursday over Buffalo, is the second choice to win it all at several.
Thursday’s victory may have been a breakout game for Mikko Rantanen, who scored a goal and added an assist. It was the winger’s first multi-point game since he was traded from Colorado to Carolina in late January.
After scoring 64 points (25 goals, 39 assists) in 49 games with the Avalanche, Rantanen—who remains the subject of trade rumors as the NHL’s March 7 trade deadline draws near—now has two goals and three assists in nine games with the Hurricanes.
Taylor Hall, whom the Hurricanes acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the three-way deal involving Colorado, also scored his first goal and second point in nine games with his new team.
While seeing the two newcomers break through Thursday may have made some Carolina fans feel better, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters it wasn’t as much of a concern for him.
“When you’re settling in, and there’s so much expected, it’s just the only way you really feel like you’re doing stuff is if you’re contributing that way,” he said. “And they both did (Thursday) in the win, so I think that that hopefully will ease their minds a little bit so they can just free up and go play.”
Will the Oilers End Their Skid?
Edmonton is desperate for a win, while Carolina looks to build momentum. Saturday’s matchup could be crucial for both teams’ playoff positioning.
