The Stars Can Win If…
Dallas fell to 41-19-2 with a 4-2 road loss to the Panthers. The Stars were underdogs on the puck line, and the total was set at 6.5 goals, with the combined 6 falling just short.
After trailing 2-0, Dallas tied it up with two goals in the second period. However, the Panthers responded with two more, including an empty-netter, to seal the win.
Dallas took 25 shots on goal but only found the net twice in their 4-2 loss to the Panthers. Evgenii Dadonov scored his second goal of the season, while Matt Duchene added his seventh. Duchene also picked up his eighth assist on Dadonov’s power-play goal.
After a scoreless first period, Dallas scored both of their goals in the second, with the final one coming at the 11:22 mark. The Stars had 32 giveaways in the game.

After tying the game at 2-2 in the second period, the Stars’ defense gave up two goals to the Panthers in the third, including an empty-netter with 1:00 remaining. Casey DeSmith made 21 saves with an 87.5% save percentage, while the defense added 5 takeaways and 26 hits.
- Dallas will look to keep things rolling as they have put together a mark of 3-0 over their past three games. Their record vs the puck line in these matchups is less impressive at 1-2, while posting an over-under record of 2-1.
- Across Dallas’s last ten regular season games, their record sits at 7-3. In these contests, the team went just 5-5 against the spread, while going 8-2 on the over-under.
The Oilers Can Win If…
Edmonton improved to 36-22-4 with a 4-2 road win over the Flames. The Oilers, favored by -1.5 goals, covered the puck line. The total was set at 6.5 goals, but both teams combined for just 6.
Four different players scored for Edmonton, with Zach Hyman breaking a 2-2 tie at 9:50 in the third period. The Oilers added an empty-net goal to seal the win.
Edmonton’s offense produced 4 goals on 31 shots in their 4-2 win over Calgary. The Oilers scored twice in the first period, with Leon Draisaitl netting his 9th goal of the season. Zach Hyman added his 3rd goal, which came on a power play in the third period.

Mattias Janmark scored his 2nd goal of the season on an empty net with just 3 seconds left. Draisaitl also picked up two assists, giving him 8 assists for the year. The Oilers had 10 giveaways in the game.
Edmonton’s defense gave up the first two goals of the game, but they shut down Calgary after that, leading to a 4-2 win. Stuart Skinner made 29 saves with a 93.5% save percentage, and the Oilers’ defense added 2 takeaways and 19 hits.
- Edmonton has put together a record of 2-1 over their past three games. However, they have only gone 1-2 vs. the puck line over this stretch. Their over-under record in these three games was 1-2.
- The Oilers have gone 4-6 over their last ten regular season games. In these contests, the team went just 2-8 against the spread, while going 6-4 on the over-under.
The Lean
When making a moneyline pick, my choice is the Oilers to come out with a win against the Stars while playing at home. Considering the moneyline odds at -118, I’m placing my bet on the Oilers to win outright.
When it comes to my suggested pick for the puck line, I’d advise taking the Stars to cover. Even in the event of a Oilers victory, this matchup is likely to remain closely contested, and the Stars should cover the puck line.
If you’re looking at the over/under line set at 6.5 goals, our prediction is that this game will exceed that mark, and we strongly advise placing a bet on the over.
Stars, Boosted by Mikko Rantanen Deal, Clash with Oilers
The Dallas Stars are going all in for a Stanley Cup championship this season, and the Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams standing in their way.
A day after making a blockbuster trade for high-scoring forward Mikko Rantanen, the Stars will look to keep rolling when they begin a four-game road trip against the Oilers on Saturday night.
Rantanen Adds Firepower to Dallas
The Stars acquired Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes, where he played his last game on Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins. While it remains uncertain if he will be available for Saturday’s game, his presence will be a major boost moving forward.
“Just the fit in Dallas,” Rantanen said about his decision to sign an eight-year, $96 million extension with the Stars. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot with my camp and myself. … Just the fit everywhere, I think that’s what the position was.”
Rantanen helped the Colorado Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2022, scoring 36 goals in the regular season and five more in the playoffs. He followed that up with a career-high 55 goals the next year.
Dallas enters the game on a four-game winning streak, finishing a perfect homestand with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
“We’re not satisfied,” Stars forward Matt Duchene said. “We want to be better. We’re happy with the win (vs. Calgary), but we’re not satisfied with the game. That’s the way winning teams have to be.”
Stars’ Scorers in Top Form
Wyatt Johnston, fresh off signing a five-year, $42 million contract extension, extended his point streak to eight games (eight goals, six assists) with a goal and an assist against Calgary. He also has three consecutive multi-point games.
Roope Hintz has a six-game point streak (three goals, 13 assists), while Jason Robertson has posted seven goals and six assists over his last six games.
Oilers Looking for Defensive Stability
Like Dallas, Edmonton sits comfortably in second place in its division and is also coming off a 3-2 overtime victory, secured by Evan Bouchard’s game-winning goal with seven seconds left against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
The Oilers surrendered a pair of one-goal leads but fought back to secure the win.
“In the past, we’ve found ways to lose those games,” Edmonton forward Leon Draisaitl said. “We would kind of let the frustration sink in a little bit. We’ll take the two points, but obviously there is lots to do better.”
Edmonton’s recent struggles include losing six of its last seven games before Thursday, with the team allowing at least four goals in each of those losses.
“If you’re letting in two goals or less in a game, chances are that you’re going to win it,” Bouchard said. “Playing defense (at a high level was) the biggest thing we were missing the past six or seven games. That was a big one for us.”
Star Power on Display
The game will showcase some of the NHL’s elite talent, including Edmonton’s dynamic duo of Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Draisaitl scored his league-leading 46th goal against Montreal and extended his point streak to 13 games (11 goals, nine assists). McDavid added two assists, extending his point streak to six games (one goal, seven assists).
With Rantanen potentially making his debut, Dallas will counter with a lethal offensive attack of its own, making this a must-watch showdown.
