The Maple Leafs Can Win If…

Following a 2-1 overtime loss to the Wild, the Maple Leafs’ record now stands at 42-24-3. Toronto’s defense allowed the game-winning goal at 2:14 into the extra period.

Going into the game, the total was set at 6 goals, but the teams combined for just 3. As the underdog on the puck line, Toronto failed to cover. The Maple Leafs’ lone goal came from William Nylander, who scored at 19:08 in the first period, tying the game.

William Nylander netted his 9th goal of the season, scoring on a power play at 19:08 in the first period. The Maple Leafs fired 28 shots on goal but only managed to score once in their 2-1 overtime loss to the Wild.

Auston Matthews picked up his 6th assist on Nylander’s goal, while Mitchell Marner added his 12th assist. Toronto had 10 giveaways in the game.

Defensively, the Maple Leafs allowed the first goal at 9:41 in the first period but didn’t give up another until 2:14 into overtime. Anthony Stolarz made 31 saves with a 93.9% save percentage. Toronto’s defense also had 30 hits and 2 takeaways.

  • Spanning across their last three games, Toronto have gone 3-0. This also includes going 3-0 puck line and an over-under mark of 2-1.
  • Through their last ten regular season contests, Toronto has a record of 5-5. Against the spread, Toronto went 4-6 in these games and finished with an over-under mark of 6-3-1.

The Predators Can Win If…

Nashville improved to 25-35-8 with a 5-2 win over the Avalanche. The Predators covered the puck line as -1.5 goal favorites, and the total of 7 goals went over the pre-game line of 6.5 goals.

All five of Nashville’s goals came from different players. After trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Predators tied it up with a goal from Steven Stamkos at 11:29 in the second period.

Nashville’s offense took 25 shots on goal and scored twice on power plays in their 5-2 win over Colorado. The Predators were held scoreless in the first period but found the net twice in the second, including Steven Stamkos’ second goal of the season. Roman Josi added his first goal of the year in the third period.

Filip Forsberg scored his 7th goal of the season on an empty net, while Gustav Nyquist added his 4th, also on an empty net. Nashville had 15 giveaways and earned 7 assists in the game.

Nashville’s defense gave up the first goal just 2:54 into the second period and another late in the third, but they held on for a 5-2 win. Juuse Saros made 29 saves with a 93.5% save percentage, and the Predators’ defense added 4 takeaways and 23 hits.

  • Over their last three regular season games, the Predators have gone 0-3 straight up. Against the spread, Nashville went 1-2 in these games and finished with an over-under mark of 0-3.
  • Nashville has put together a record of 4-6 in their last ten games (regular season). Against the spread, Nashville went 3-7 in these games and finished with an over-under mark of 3-7.

The Lean

When it comes to a moneyline wager, I’m going with the Predators to defeat the Maple Leafs while playing at home. Given the current moneyline odds at +139, I’m placing a wager on the Predators to win outright.

Our projections have the Predators pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Predators, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.

With an over/under line sitting at 6 goals, we like this game to surpass that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the over.

Maple Leafs Look to Stay Hot in Visit to Slumping Predators

The surging Toronto Maple Leafs bring a three-game win streak into Nashville on Saturday for a clash with a Predators squad in free fall.

Toronto Finds Its Form

The Maple Leafs (42-24-3, 87 points) are coming off one of their most impressive stretches of the season. After taking care of Calgary and Colorado at home, Toronto capped the three-game run with a 4-3 road win over the Rangers on Thursday. John Tavares headlined the night by reaching 1,100 career points with two goals and an assist, while Jake McCabe chipped in three helpers.

Toronto’s sudden surge has them tied with Florida atop the Atlantic Division standings, and they’ve done it with depth scoring. Bobby McMann added a goal and assist in New York, while William Nylander collected two more assists to continue his standout campaign.

Captain Auston Matthews was quiet Thursday, but he’ll be a name to watch Saturday. Matthews has recorded 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in 13 career matchups against the Predators and will look to reignite his scoring touch in a favorable spot.

Nashville’s Offense Disappears

While Toronto is finding rhythm, Nashville (25-35-8, 58 points) is searching for answers. The Predators dropped their fourth straight game on Thursday, a 4-1 loss to Anaheim in which they were outscored 4-0 after the first period.

Steven Stamkos scored Nashville’s only goal, a power-play tally that marked his 578th career goal and moved him to 22nd on the NHL’s all-time list. But the milestone came in a game otherwise devoid of offensive production, as Nashville has now scored just three total goals over its four-game skid.

Veteran forward Ryan O’Reilly expressed his frustration postgame, acknowledging the group’s struggle to generate much of anything on the ice.

Coach Andrew Brunette didn’t sugarcoat the current reality. With 14 games remaining and the Predators 19 points out of a playoff spot, he admitted finding motivation has been difficult.

Matchup History & Outlook

Toronto has had Nashville’s number in recent years, winning six of the last eight meetings. The Maple Leafs are looking to capitalize on a favorable matchup against a team with little to play for and an offense that’s gone missing.

Meanwhile, the Predators are just playing for pride and hoping to recapture some identity in front of a home crowd.
