Ottawa Surging Into Playoffs with Home-Ice Dominance

The Senators (43-30-6, 92 points) are locked into their first playoff appearance since 2017 and are refusing to take their foot off the gas. Ottawa has gone 14-5-2 since the start of March and has transformed the Canadian Tire Centre into a fortress with a 20-6-1 home record since late November.

On Friday, they handled Montreal with a convincing 5-2 win in a game that had the intensity of playoff hockey. Shane Pinto led the charge with two goals, while Ridly Greig added a goal and an assist, pushing the Senators’ home win streak to four games.

“I thought we had a good game and played the right way (Friday). It feels good. … But we have bigger fish to fry in the next few weeks,” Pinto said.

Greig and Pinto, along with linemate Michael Amadio, continue to fly under the radar but have proven to be critical to Ottawa’s balanced attack. The trio has accounted for five points over the past two meetings against Philadelphia and continues to generate offense while maintaining defensive responsibility.

“I think me, ‘Rids and Amadio just kind of read off of each other pretty well. It’s fun to play with them,” Pinto added.

Goaltending has also played a massive role in Ottawa’s late-season success. Linus Ullmark, who stopped 20 of 22 shots on Friday, has surrendered just three goals on 83 shots during a three-game win streak at home. Backup Anton Forsberg has been equally sharp, boasting a 1.65 GAA and .951 save percentage over his last three home starts.

Flyers Show Fight Under Interim Coach Brad Shaw

Though the Flyers (33-37-9) have been out of the playoff picture for some time, they’ve played spirited hockey under interim coach Brad Shaw. With Saturday’s 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders, Philadelphia improved to 5-1-0 under Shaw’s guidance and has tallied 29 goals in that stretch.

“We want to build good habits going into next year,” said goaltender Sam Ersson. “It’s a lot better to feel good about yourself going into the offseason.”

Bobby Brink netted the only goal in the shootout, while Tyson Foerster scored twice in regulation, bringing his season total to a career-high 24 goals — six of which have come in just the last three games. Despite his recent tear, Foerster has yet to register a point against Ottawa this season.

Goaltending will be something to monitor for Philly. Ersson, who made 37 saves Saturday, may rest on the second leg of a back-to-back. Ivan Fedotov, who allowed eight goals across two losses to Ottawa this season, hasn’t played since March 31. Rookie Aleksei Kolosov, recalled last week, could get the nod after stopping 24 of 29 shots in his debut against the Rangers.

This matchup may not impact playoff seedings, but for those looking to cash in on meaningful trends, Ottawa’s home-ice dominance and playoff-ready form make this game a prime betting opportunity. Don’t miss your chance to capitalize with the latest expert NHL picks and projections.
