Jets Look to Keep Record Win Streak Going in Visit to Senators

The Winnipeg Jets have been unstoppable, winning 10 straight games to set a franchise record. They aim to keep the streak alive when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night.

Winnipeg’s latest victory came in dramatic fashion, a 2-1 overtime win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday. Defenseman Josh Morrissey tied the game with just 26 seconds left in regulation, and Mark Scheifele delivered the game-winner in OT.

“There’s no quit in our team,” Morrissey said. “We just got to hang in there. That’s what we did. We did a lot of good things, their goalie played well, they were defending really hard. It took a while, but we finally cracked it.”

With 85 points, the Jets sit atop the Western Conference standings, solidifying themselves as a Stanley Cup contender. Their last loss came on Jan. 20 against the Utah Hockey Club.

Scheifele’s goal against San Jose marked his 32nd of the season and pushed him past Ilya Kovalchuk as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 329 career goals.

“That was fun. That building was rocking,” Scheifele said. “Their goalie stood on his head all night and made us go 59 minutes and 30 seconds to get past him. But obviously, that was a big win.”

Senators Struggling After the 4 Nations Break

Ottawa has lost four in a row, including a 5-2 home defeat to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday in their first game following the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

Tim Stutzle extended his point streak to nine games (three goals, 10 assists) with a goal and an assist, while defenseman Jake Sanderson also scored. However, goaltender Linus Ullmark struggled, allowing five goals on 15 shots before being pulled early in the third period.

“Rusty,” Ottawa coach Travis Green said of his team’s performance. “We weren’t very good with the puck. It wasn’t a very pretty game.”

The Senators played without captain Brady Tkachuk, who suffered a lower-body injury while representing Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off. Centers Josh Norris (mid-body injury) and Shane Pinto (upper-body injury) were also out.

Tkachuk briefly participated in Tuesday’s practice before leaving the ice, while Norris completed the session, and Pinto wore a non-contact jersey.

“They’re big parts of our team,” Green said. “When three of your top players, your most skilled players (are out), I think it showed as far as our play with the puck. We need other guys to be on top of their game. I didn’t think we were on top of our game throughout our lineup.”

Head-to-Head Battle

The Jets and Senators met earlier this season on Dec. 28, with Winnipeg winning 4-2 at home. The Jets will look to complete the season sweep, while Ottawa hopes to break its losing skid and get back in the playoff hunt.

With Winnipeg’s offense firing on all cylinders and Ottawa dealing with injuries, the Jets appear poised to extend their historic winning streak. Will the Senators pull off an upset at home, or will Winnipeg’s dominance continue?
