Flyers Open Homestand vs. Flames, Welcome Back Old Faces
Just over a month after a notable trade between the Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames, the two teams will meet Tuesday night in Philadelphia, marking the return of Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee to their former home.
While Philadelphia (4-0-1 in its last five games) has continued to build momentum, Calgary has struggled offensively since the deal, going 3-5-2 and failing to score more than three goals in any of those 10 games.
Flames Searching for Offense as Struggles Continue
The Flames enter Tuesday’s game on a three-game losing streak (0-2-1) and have managed just one goal across those three contests.
“You go through these stretches during the season when you get into ruts,” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said after Sunday’s 2-1 overtime loss to Carolina. “We’re in one offensively right now. But it will turn as long as the work and the compete is still there, and I saw that right until the end (Sunday).”
The lone goal in the loss came from Nazem Kadri, as Calgary fell to 1-2-1 on its six-game road trip, which concludes with matchups against Philadelphia and Dallas.
“We fought right to the end,” Kadri said. “… We’d like to get two points, but it feels like we should have had two.”
Flyers Riding Hot Streak as Homestand Begins
Philadelphia returns home after a successful 2-1 shootout victory over Winnipeg, a game in which Ivan Fedotov made 29 saves before stopping all three of the Jets’ shootout attempts.
Rookie Matvei Michkov scored a highlight-reel shootout goal to secure the win, while Jamie Drysdale found the back of the net in regulation.
“(Fedotov) was outstanding playing against one of, or the best, goalie in the league, probably, in (Connor Hellebuyck),” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I thought everybody contributed.”
Now, the Flyers begin a seven-game homestand, with matchups against contenders like Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, and Carolina ahead.
Former Flyers Return With Mixed Results
This game marks the first meeting between the Flyers and two of their former players, Frost and Farabee, since their trade to Calgary on Jan. 30.
Despite high expectations for a fresh start, neither player has found much success with the Flames:
- Morgan Frost: 2 goals, 1 assist (-4) in 10 games
- Joel Farabee: 1 goal, 0 assists (-3) in 10 games
Frost had hoped to provide a spark to Calgary’s struggling offense, but so far, that impact has been minimal.
“In the moment, you’re obviously sad to leave your teammates that you’ve been with … but at the same time, I think both of us probably needed a fresh start anyway,” Frost said after the trade. “We’re in the hunt. Hopefully, we can come in and give the team a boost.”
New Flyers Also Looking to Make an Impact
On the Philadelphia side, Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier, who were acquired from Calgary in the same trade, are still adjusting to their new team:
- Andrei Kuzmenko: 1 goal, 2 assists (-4) in 5 games
- Jakob Pelletier: 1 assist in 4 games
Kuzmenko’s offensive potential remains a key factor for the Flyers, but his future with the team is uncertain as the trade deadline approaches. Tortorella hinted that his time in Philadelphia could be short-lived.
“I’ll act accordingly as we go through this, and the organization will act accordingly as we watch this,” Tortorella said. “It’s a bit of an audition of, what are you, can you help us, (and) do you want to help us? … And, we’ll make a decision from there.”

What’s at Stake?
For the Flyers, a win would help solidify their playoff push and continue their strong recent form. For the Flames, breaking out of their offensive slump is crucial if they hope to stay in the Western Conference playoff race.
