Penguins Look to Keep Rolling at Home Against Bruins
Though the Pittsburgh Penguins are out of playoff contention, they’re not playing like a team ready to fold. With pride — and personal milestones — on the line, the Penguins aim to extend their win streak to three when they host the Boston Bruins on Sunday.
Stars Still Shining in Pittsburgh
Veteran leaders Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Bryan Rust have been leading by example. In Friday’s 4-2 win over the Devils, each of the trio contributed a goal and an assist. Crosby’s late power-play tally stood as the game-winner, and the victory marked Pittsburgh’s second straight.

“It’s just accountability to one another,” said Crosby. “Some days it’s not as fun when you’re dropping games and you’re not going to make the playoffs… I thought we’ve done as good a job as we possibly could, given the situation.”
With two games left, Crosby continues to chase history. His 89 points (32 goals, 57 assists) in 78 games make this his 20th season averaging at least a point per game — surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s previous record of 19 such campaigns.
Bryan Rust added an empty-netter for his career-high 29th goal, while goalie Tristan Jarry turned away 26 shots in the win.
“He’s the first one on the ice… it’s no surprise he’s still doing that at this age,” Jarry said of Rust’s dedication. “It’s fun to see and fun to stand back there and watch.”
Valtteri Puustinen also found the back of the net, and Matt Grzelcyk recorded two assists in a complete team effort.

Bruins’ Inconsistency Marks a Forgettable Season
Boston, too, is out of the postseason picture and has struggled to maintain form, losing two of their last three, including a 5-2 defeat to Chicago on Monday. Still, coach Joe Sacco insists that finishing strong remains a point of pride.
“It’s a humbling league… you have to be ready for 60 minutes regardless of where teams are in the standings,” Sacco said. “You have to show up and compete.”
Despite the team’s overall struggles, David Pastrnak continues to put up elite numbers. He added a goal and assist in the loss to the Blackhawks, pushing his total to 102 points (42 goals, 60 assists) over 80 games and extending his point streak to eight games.
Meanwhile, Morgan Geekie has emerged as a standout in his sixth NHL season. With 31 goals and 55 points, he’s riding a nine-game point streak.

“He’s become a real goal-scoring threat… it’s good to see him have success this whole year,” Pastrnak said of Geekie.
Pride and Performance Fuel Final Games
For both clubs, the playoffs are out of reach, but the individual efforts and team culture remain vital. Whether it’s Crosby chasing more history or Boston’s young core developing chemistry, Sunday’s matinee offers more than meets the eye.
