Rangers, Red Wings Aspire to Play with Consistency
The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings both have their sights set on finding consistency as they prepare to face off on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. In that victory, goaltender Cam Talbot was outstanding, making 42 saves to secure the shutout. Talbot, who signed with the Red Wings in the offseason, has been a reliable presence in net, stopping 54 of 56 shots faced in his first two appearances.
Detroit’s defense improved significantly, blocking 31 shots against Nashville compared to just 12 in their opener. Defenseman Moritz Seider led the way with seven blocks, and the Red Wings’ penalty kill was perfect, neutralizing three Nashville power plays.
“Obviously much more committed defensively for a sustained amount of time,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “That’s a really good team. I don’t see them getting shut out many times this year, so that was a pretty good effort.”
Offensively, J.T. Compher and Andrew Copp found the back of the net, while captain Dylan Larkin added an empty-netter. Key lineup adjustments, including moving Lucas Raymond to the second line with Compher and Vladimir Tarasenko, proved effective.
