The Bruins Can Win If…

With a 2-0 win over the Kraken, the Bruins moved to 30-31-9 this season. Both goals came in the first period, and Boston covered the puck line as -1.5 goal favorites. The total was set at 6 goals, but the game’s combined 2 goals fell well short of that number.

Justin Brazeau opened the scoring at 3:23 in the first period, and Charlie Coyle added a power-play goal at 9:57. The Bruins’ defense held Seattle scoreless, with Jeremy Swayman stopping all 23 shots he faced.

Boston’s offense struck twice in their 2-0 win over Seattle, with both goals coming in the first period. Justin Brazeau netted his 5th goal of the season, while Charlie Coyle added his 2nd, converting on a power play.

The Bruins fired 33 shots on goal but also had 16 giveaways. Brazeau scored on one of his two shots, and Coyle found the net on one of his four attempts.

Defensively, the Bruins will be looking to carry over their performance from their previous game, where they shut out the Kraken 2-0. Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves with a 100% save percentage, and the defense contributed 5 takeaways, 15 hits, and 27 blocks.

  • Over their last three regular season games, the Bruins have gone 0-3 straight up. In these contests, the team went just 0-3 against the spread, while going 2-1 on the over-under.
  • Across Boston’s last ten regular season games, their record sits at 3-7. Across these games, their puck line record was just 5-5, while posting an over-under record of 4-6.

The Sharks Can Win If…

With a 3-2 loss to the Canucks, the Sharks fell to 18-42-9 this season. San Jose took the lead first, but Vancouver scored with just 26 seconds left to secure the win. The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, but the combined 5 goals fell short of that mark. The Sharks, as underdogs on the puck line, failed to cover.

Nico Sturm opened the scoring for San Jose at 17:23 in the second period. The Canucks tied it up later in the second and then took the lead in the third. Mikael Granlund’s goal at 18:43 in the third brought the Sharks level, but Vancouver responded with the game-winner at 19:34.

San Jose’s offense struggled in their 3-2 loss to Vancouver, with 16 giveaways and only two goals on 23 shots. Nico Sturm scored his second goal of the season, while Mikael Granlund added his sixth, finding the net with 1:17 left in the game.

Luke Kunin picked up his third assist on Sturm’s goal, and Tyler Toffoli and William Eklund added assists on Granlund’s goal, giving them five and seven assists on the year, respectively.

San Jose’s defense will look to bounce back after allowing a late goal with just 26 seconds left in the 3rd period, which led to a 3-2 loss to Vancouver. Mackenzie Blackwood made 25 saves with a save percentage of 89.3%. The Sharks’ defense also contributed 6 takeaways and 21 hits.

  • The Sharks have gone 1-2 over their last three regular season games. In these contests, the team went just 1-2 against the spread, while going 0-1-2 on the over-under.
  • San Jose has put together a record of 3-7 in their last ten games (regular season). Their record vs the puck line sits at 5-5 in these matchups, while posting a 4-3-3 over-under mark.

The Lean

For a moneyline pick, I’m taking the Sharks to pick up on a win over the Bruins at home. With the moneyline sitting at +121, I’ll be locking in a bet on the Sharks straight-up.

Our projections have the Sharks pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Sharks, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.

With an over/under line sitting at 5.5 goals, we like this game to surpass that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the over.

Bruins Facing Urgency as Road Trip Continues vs. Sharks

The Boston Bruins head into Saturday night’s matchup with the San Jose Sharks desperate for a turnaround, as time dwindles in their push for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Bruins Slumping at the Worst Time

The Bruins (33-30-8, 74 points) are reeling after a 5-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, their fourth straight defeat and the latest in a brutal stretch that has seen them go 0-3-1. Boston has now fallen five points back in the playoff race, and Saturday’s meeting with the lowly Sharks presents a crucial opportunity to stop the bleeding.

Boston’s scoring issues remain a glaring problem. The Bruins have netted more than three goals just twice in their last 16 games and were held under 20 shots for a third straight contest on Thursday. Even worse, their power play has dried up, failing to convert in four straight games while drawing just five opportunities.

Morgan Geekie, who tallied his 24th goal against Vegas, acknowledged the pressure is mounting.

“It’s frustrating when you don’t put (good looks) away,” Geekie said. “Maybe it’s a different game if those go in and maybe it changes the outcome.”

Goaltender Jeremy Swayman hasn’t had much help, either, dropping his last three starts while the team in front of him continues to sputter offensively.

Sharks Lean on Youth During Rebuild

The Sharks (18-45-7, 43 points) have the worst record in the NHL but continue to showcase the next generation of talent. Thursday’s 3-1 loss to Carolina marked their fifth defeat in six games, but it also featured the NHL debut of defenseman Luca Cagnoni and the first career start for goalie Georgi Romanov.

Cagnoni, a 2023 fourth-round pick, logged over 23 minutes in his debut and is one of several young players stepping into major roles for a rebuilding San Jose squad.

“I wish I could tell you I expected it this year,” Cagnoni admitted, “but honestly, I didn’t.”

Romanov, filling in for the injured Yaroslav Askarov, stopped 26 of 29 shots in his first start after three relief appearances. Coach Ryan Warsofsky emphasized the importance of stability between the pipes moving forward.

The Sharks’ young stars, including Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini, continue to be bright spots. Celebrini leads all NHL rookies with 21 goals and recently hit the 50-point mark, while Smith has two goals and four points in his last five games.

Previous Meeting & What’s at Stake

These teams last met on Jan. 20, when Boston rolled to a 6-3 win at TD Garden. Smith notched a goal and assist in that loss for San Jose. This time around, Boston enters with playoff urgency while the Sharks continue to evaluate future pieces.

The Bruins must capitalize on this matchup to avoid falling further behind in the standings. With just 11 games left after Saturday, every point is critical for Boston’s postseason hopes.
