The Lean
For a moneyline pick, I’m taking the Sharks to pick up on a win over the Stars at home. With the moneyline sitting at +217, I’ll be locking in a bet on the Sharks straight-up.
Our projections have the Sharks pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Sharks, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.
When considering the over/under line, which is currently at 6.5 goals, we believe that this game will go over that threshold, and we recommend wagering on the over.
Former Sharks Face Off Against Old Team in California Finale
Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci will make their return to the Bay Area on Saturday night, but this time, they’ll be in enemy territory. The former San Jose Sharks, now with the Dallas Stars following a Feb. 1 trade, are set to face their former teammates as the Stars aim to complete a season sweep of San Jose.
The deal, which sent Granlund and Ceci to Dallas in exchange for two 2025 draft picks, marked a significant shake-up for both teams. Granlund, who led the Sharks in assists (30) and points (45) at the time of the trade, has already made an impact with the Stars, tallying two assists in three games.
“We miss him, he’s a great player,” Sharks forward Fabian Zetterlund admitted. “We can’t do anything about it right now. I think we’ve played two really good games here (since the trade).”
While emotions may be high for Granlund and Ceci as they return to familiar ice, the Stars have their sights set on breaking out of a two-game slump and avoiding a winless California road trip.
Dallas Looking to Rebound After Shootout Loss
The Stars, currently second in the Central Division, have been solid over the past 10 games (6-3-1) but stumbled in Los Angeles on Friday night, falling 5-4 in a shootout.
Matt Duchene was a bright spot for Dallas, scoring twice and adding an assist while reaching a career milestone with his 500th assist. Mavrik Bourque and Thomas Harley also found the back of the net, and Jake Oettinger turned away 33 shots.
“(The Kings) are at a different level this year than they were last year,” Duchene noted. “I thought the first 15 minutes we weren’t very good, and then (Oettinger) was great. The last five minutes of the first period, we sort of came to life, and I thought we were pretty good after that. We had a lot of good looks. Tough loss, but big point.”
Dallas remains a strong contender, but road consistency has been a challenge. With a 14-11-1 away record, they’ll need a sharper effort against a struggling Sharks squad to end their California swing on a high note.
Stars Banking on DeSmith to Secure the Win
With Oettinger having played Friday, Casey DeSmith is expected to get the nod in goal for Dallas. The veteran netminder has posted an 8-6-0 record this season with a respectable 2.46 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.
DeSmith’s history against the Sharks, however, has been less than stellar. In six career games against San Jose, he holds a 2-4-0 record with a .888 save percentage and a 3.58 GAA—numbers that suggest the Sharks could have an opportunity to capitalize.
The Stars have already claimed two wins over the Sharks this season, both in Dallas—a 3-2 shootout victory on Oct. 15 and a more decisive 5-2 triumph on Nov. 20. With the final meeting of the season on tap, Dallas will look to complete the sweep.
Sharks Struggling to Find Consistency
For San Jose, this season has been one of adversity. The Sharks sit at the bottom of the Western Conference and have just one win in their last 10 games (1-8-1). Their most recent effort, a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks, showed promise but ultimately ended in another frustrating defeat.
Tyler Toffoli provided the lone goal for the Sharks, marking his team-leading 20th tally of the season. Meanwhile, Vitek Vanecek made 22 saves to keep the game close, but it wasn’t enough to steal a win.
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky remains optimistic despite the team’s struggles.
“I thought we competed hard, I thought we worked hard,” Warsofsky said after the Vancouver game. “Our puck play was a little iffy at times, but I thought we did enough to win a hockey game, that’s for sure.”
Toffoli has been one of the few bright spots for the Sharks, recording points in four straight games (three goals, two assists). Even with Granlund gone, he remains a key offensive driver, ranking fourth on the team with 35 points in 53 games.

Goaltending Woes Continue for San Jose
One of the Sharks’ biggest issues this season has been goaltending. Alexandar Georgiev, acquired from Colorado in December, has had a rough stretch in San Jose, posting a 2-11-0 record with an .875 save percentage and a 4.01 GAA in 14 appearances.
His numbers against the Stars are slightly better—6-4-0 with a .901 save percentage and a 3.05 GAA in 11 career games—but he’ll need to be at his best if the Sharks want to pull off an upset.
With Granlund and Ceci returning to face their former team and the Stars eager to close out their California trip with a win, Saturday’s game is shaping up to be an intriguing showdown. The Sharks may be struggling, but a victory against their former teammates would be a much-needed confidence boost.
