The Lean
For a moneyline bet, I’m backing the Kraken to secure a victory over the Stars at home. With the moneyline currently set at +143, I’m locking in my bet on the Kraken straight-up.
Our projections have the Kraken pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Kraken, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.
With an over/under line sitting at 6 goals, we like this game to surpass that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the over.
Stars Aim to Clinch Playoff Spot in Weekend Set vs. Kraken
SEATTLE — The Dallas Stars can officially punch their ticket to the postseason this weekend as they open a crucial two-game road series against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night. With a win and a Colorado victory over St. Louis, the Stars would clinch a playoff berth, marking their fifth trip in the last six seasons.
Dallas Focused on Seeding, Not Just Clinching
The Stars (47-21-4, 98 points) enter Saturday riding a four-game winning streak and a seven-game point streak (5-0-2). Fresh off a 5-2 win in Calgary on Thursday, Dallas remains locked in a heated battle atop the Central Division standings. They trail the Winnipeg Jets by four points for the division lead while holding a five-point edge over third-place Colorado, giving Dallas everything to play for down the stretch.
Coach Pete DeBoer emphasized that the mission extends well beyond simply qualifying.
“We’re not just looking to get in,” DeBoer said. “We want to be in the best position possible. Whether it’s chasing Winnipeg or keeping ahead of Colorado, every point matters.”
The Stars are getting hot at the right time, with key players leading the charge. Jason Robertson has six points in his last four outings, including a hat trick in Edmonton on Wednesday. Trade-deadline pickup Mikko Rantanen is making an immediate impact, notching eight points in 10 games with the team. Veteran Matt Duchene has added offensive consistency, registering points in six of his last seven games.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger is expected to get one of the two starts this weekend in Seattle. He’s coming off a season-best 41-save performance against the Oilers and appears to be rounding into playoff form.
Kraken Clinging to Faint Playoff Hopes
Seattle (31-36-6, 68 points) is hanging by a thread in the Western Conference playoff picture and is one regulation loss away from being officially eliminated. However, the Kraken are playing with pride, going 5-3-2 in their last 10 games and coming off a dominant 6-1 home win over Edmonton.
“We’re proud of how we’re competing,” Kraken coach Dan Bylsma said. “The guys are playing for each other. That bodes well for where we’re heading.”
The Kraken’s top contributors are heating up. Jaden Schwartz has scored in three straight games and leads the team with 23 goals, while Jared McCann remains the club’s top scorer with 51 points. He has six points in his last five games, including a two-point effort on Thursday.
Seattle could be without top playmaker Chandler Stephenson, who’s missed the last four games due to an upper-body injury and remains day-to-day.
