Philadelphia vs. Winnipeg Key Information

  • Teams: Flyers at Jets
  • Where: Canada Life Centre Winnipeg
  • Date: Saturday, March 1st
  • Betting Odds WPG -211 | PHI +177 O/U 5.5

The Flyers Can Win If…

With a 3-0 loss to the Bruins, the Flyers fell to 26-27-8 this season. Philadelphia’s defense struggled throughout, allowing goals in each period, including an empty-netter in the third.

The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, but the combined score of 3 fell well short of that mark. As the underdog on the puck line, the Flyers failed to cover. They were also shut out offensively, managing only 20 shots on goal.

Philadelphia’s offense was held scoreless in their 3-0 loss to Boston, managing 20 shots on goal but failing to find the back of the net. The Flyers had 15 giveaways and were shut out for the first time in six games.

After scoring 4 goals in their previous game, the Flyers were unable to convert any of their chances against the Bruins. They were blanked in all three periods, including a 1-0 first period, a 2-0 second period, and a 3-0 third period.

Defensively, the Flyers allowed the first goal at 13:28 of the first period and another at 11:23 of the second. The final goal was an empty-netter at 16:21 of the third. Samuel Ersson made 8 saves with a 100% save percentage, while the defense added 5 takeaways and 30 hits.

  • Spanning across their last three games, Philadelphia have gone 2-1. In terms of betting, the team went 3-0 puck line in these matchups. Their over/under record in these matchups is 3-0.
  • Philadelphia has put together a record of 4-6 in their last ten games (regular season). This includes going 6-4 vs. the puck line along with an over-under mark of 5-5.

The Jets Can Win If…

With a 7-4 victory over the Lightning, the Jets improved to 42-15-3. Winnipeg, favored by -1.5 goals, covered the puck line. The total was set at 6.5 goals, and the combined 11 goals easily surpassed that mark.

Seven different players scored for the Jets, who trailed 2-0 early in the game. They took the lead for good with a goal at 12:22 in the third period and added two empty-netters to seal the win.

Winnipeg’s offense came alive in their latest game, scoring 7 goals on 34 shots. The Jets netted two empty-netters, with Nikolaj Ehlers picking up his 9th goal of the season and Cole Perfetti adding his 4th. Earlier, Dylan Samberg scored his 3rd goal, while Alex Iafallo found the net for the first time this season on a power play.

Vladislav Namestnikov opened the scoring for the Jets, marking his 3rd goal of the year. Logan Stanley followed with his 1st goal, and Mark Scheifele added his 8th. Winnipeg recorded 10 assists, with Josh Morrissey earning his 13th of the season.

Defensively, the Jets allowed the first two goals of the game and another at the 6:51 mark in the 3rd period, which tied the game at 4-4. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves, posting a save percentage of 86.7%. The Jets’ defense also recorded 5 takeaways and 31 hits.

  • The Jets have posted a 2-1 record in their previous three games. This includes going 1-2 vs. the puck line and posting an over-under mark of 0-3.
  • Across Winnipeg’s last ten regular season games, their record sits at 9-1. In these matchups, they ended with an puck line record of 6-4 and an over-under mark of 5-5.

The Lean

When it comes to a moneyline bet in this game, our analysis leans towards the Jets picking up the win. However, given the current odds of -211, I’d advise going with the puck line, as our predictions have the Jets coming out on top by more than one goal.

For a puck line prediction, our preference is the Jets to secure a win and cover. Anticipate the Jets to win this one by multiple goals over the Flyers.

With an over/under line sitting at 5.5 goals, we like this game to surpass that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the over.

Jets Prepare for Flyers After Suffering First Loss Since Jan. 20

The Philadelphia Flyers will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

Philadelphia entered its last game against Pittsburgh on a three-game winning streak and just six points out of a playoff spot. The Flyers built a 3-0 lead against the Penguins, but collapsed in a 5-4 overtime loss that kept them stuck in the standings.

Despite the disappointing result, head coach John Tortorella was encouraged by his team’s play, pointing out that they performed well for most of the game.

“Other than seven or eight minutes, we did a lot of good things,” Tortorella said. “Our third period was really good … It’s not one of those games … I really liked a lot of what we did.”

With just 22 games left in the regular season, the Flyers know they can’t afford many more losses.

“It’s an unfortunate loss,” forward Matvei Michkov said through an interpreter. “In overtime, that goal was not good. There was a little bit of miscommunication … We can’t afford mistakes like that. We’ll get ready for the next game. We have to win the next one.”

Jets Shift Focus After Streak Ends

Unlike the Flyers, the Jets are sitting comfortably at the top of the standings. Winnipeg leads the Western Conference by 11 points and currently holds the best record in the NHL, sitting three points ahead of the Washington Capitals in the East.

With their playoff spot all but secured, their focus over the final 22 games is on fine-tuning their play as they chase the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup and try to become the first Canadian team to win it since Montreal in 1993.

The Jets’ 11-game winning streak, a franchise record, came to an end on Thursday in a 2-1 road loss to the Nashville Predators. Despite the loss, defenseman Neal Pionk is confident in the team’s ability to bounce back.

“Start a new streak,” Pionk said. “Like every game, win or lose, we reflect on it, learn from it, wash it away and get back after it on Saturday.”

One major area the Jets will look to improve is their power play. While Winnipeg leads the league at 30.9 percent, they have failed to convert on their last 16 opportunities.

“We changed a few things around,” Jets coach Scott Arniel said. “We had some great looks, but sometimes it just doesn’t go in. It’s part of the season, and we’ll stick with it. We’ve got some things to work on, but we’ll keep looking at it.”

Injury Concerns for Both Teams

The Flyers may be without forward Garnet Hathaway, who was injured after taking a blindside hit from Pittsburgh’s Boko Imama on Thursday. Tortorella did not hold back his criticism of the hit, calling it “one of the dirtiest hits (he’s) seen in a while.” Hathaway needed assistance leaving the ice, and his status remains uncertain.

The Jets could see the return of forward Morgan Barron, who has been out with an upper-body injury since Jan. 28. He is close to returning and may be back in the lineup on Saturday.
