Jake Paul vs Mike Perry Odds and Predictions

On Saturday, July 20, Jake Paul and Mike Perry will compete in an eight-round pro boxing match live on PPV from the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida. Titled “Fear No Man,” this main event fight will be contested in the cruiserweight division. Paul and Perry are expected to walk to the ring at roughly 12 am ET.

This event was originally scheduled for Paul to fight Mike Tyson on Netflix. Unfortunately, Tyson pulled out due to health issues. Paul wanted to keep the fight date and agreed to take on Perry, who has sparred against Paul and been an emergency back-up in the past.

The full Perry vs. Paul fight card features well-known fighters like Amanda Serrano, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and Uriah Hall. Serrano is in the co-main event where she’s taking a warm-up fight before the potential rematch against Katie Taylor later this year.

Jake Paul Fights

Jake Paul’s odyssey into boxing began with a YouTube beef that saw “The Problem Child” easily dispatch of Ali Eson Gib via 1st round TKO. Paul then moved on to make quick work of former pro athletes Nate Robinson and Ben Askren before battling Tyron Woodley twice. The second bout between the two saw Paul KO Woodley in the 6th round.

After Woodley, Paul wasn’t done beating up former MMA fighters. He would go on to defeat both Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz via unanimous decisions. However, in-between those two bouts, Paul suffered the lone defeat of his pro career to date.

Paul lost to Tommy Fury via split decision: 73-76, 75-74, 73-76. Fury did get knocked down in the final round, but it wasn’t enough for Paul to pick up the decision victory. He was still too far behind on the cards.

Following the loss, The Problem Child quickly got back into the ring and picked up first round TKO/KO wins over Andre August and Ryan Bourland since mid-December.

The Tyson fight has been pushed back to mid-November as of now. We’ll see if this bout goes through or not. It’s quite possible that we get a rematch between Diaz and Paul, after Diaz recently beat Jorge Masvidal via decision.

Currently, Paul’s odds for this upcoming fight range between -300 and -400. He opened as a -250 favorite, which was up from his -150 opening line against Mike Tyson. Paul closed as a -5000 favorite against Bourland and -1100 against August.

Mike Perry Fights

Mike “Platinum” Perry is a well-known mixed martial artist with a fearless attitude and a willingness to strike. He finished his MMA career at 14-8 with only one loss coming via TKO/KO. Six of those eight losses were via decision. He did have 11 TKO/KO victories over that span.

Perry’s UFC contract expired in the spring of 2021, after dropping four of his final five fights with the promotion. He last competed in the octagon in April 2021, where he lost via decision to Daniel Rodriguez. His last UFC win came in June 2020, when he defeated Mickey Gall via decision.

One of my favorite Perry UFC fights was against Vicente Luque in August 2019, where these two men just destroyed each other. Luque won via split decision and the men earned Fight of the Night honors.

Following the UFC, Perry moved on to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Prior to debuting for BKFC, Perry beat boxer Michael Seals in a boxing vs. MMA event in late-November of 2021. He debuted at Knucklemania 2 in February 2022, and beat Julian Lane via unanimous decision.

After a successful debut, Perry would go on to beat Michael Page via decision, Luke Rockhold via TKO after the latter retired in their main event fight, and Eddie Alvarez via TKO.

Perry’s most recent fight came in April, at Knucklemania 4, where he beat Thiago Alves in the main event via 1st round KO. The victory improved Perry’s BKFC record to 5-0.

Platinum’s odds for this bout range from +250 to +300. He opened as a +200 underdog. It’s quite surprising how he’s growing as an underdog considering how tough of a fighter he is and how good of a striker Perry is.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry Prediction

In the UFC, Perry landed 4.32 strikes per minute with a 47% accuracy. In BKFC, Perry’s striking looks even better. His win over MVP in London was impressive, but Platinum has continued to evolve since that contest.

If this was a bare-knuckle fight, the former MMA fighter would easily win. But that won’t ever happen as Perry has gone on record stating that Paul will never fight him in a bare-knuckle fight:

“One thing I want to remind Jake over and over again is that he wouldn’t do a bare-knuckle fight. Whether he says he would or not, especially after this fight in 10-ounce gloves. He wants to bring it up like ‘boxing is this incredible sport and these hooligans are out there doing this bare-knuckle stuff’ and blah, blah, blah. I’m going to beat him with 10-ounce gloves on. He definitely won’t want to do bare-knuckle after that.”

Paul has a five-inch reach advantage, which will play a big role in this bout. Perry will try to get inside and do damage, but it’s not going to be as easy as it sounds. The Problem Child is the bigger fighter of the two and has shown a respectable amount of boxing skills as he’s evolved as a boxer over the years. In an MMA or BKFC fight, Perry would win, but in the boxing ring, you have to give the advantage to Paul.

With that said, Perry is definitely worthy of a small flier as he is a live underdog in this bout. Perry has the striking skills and power to do some damage in this contest. However, the safe play is on Paul to win via decision. I do believe the scores will be closer than the Diaz fight (97-92, 98-91, 98-91).
