Dynamo Look to Build Momentum Against Winless Galaxy
The Houston Dynamo are riding the momentum of their first win of the season—and they’ll aim to pile on more misery for the struggling, winless LA Galaxy on Saturday night in Carson, Calif.
The defending MLS champions have stumbled out of the gate, and the stats are bleak: Los Angeles (0-5-2, 2 points) sits tied for the worst record in the league with CF Montreal and has been blanked in three of its last five matches.

The Galaxy’s 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last weekend continued a downward spiral that’s seen the offense all but disappear. With only five goals scored this season, and just one shot on target last match—coming in stoppage time—coach Greg Vanney is grasping for answers.
“We get somebody in a crossing situation, and we don’t get a hard run to the near post… At some point, it has to come together,”
– Galaxy coach Greg Vanney on his team’s attacking struggles.
With star midfielder Riqui Puig still sidelined from an ACL injury and the offseason trade of Dejan Joveljic removing a key scoring threat, LA’s offensive core has thinned out. Compounding matters, the Galaxy were also eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Tuesday in a loss to Tigres UANL.
Veteran forward Diego Fagundez remains focused on turning things around before it’s too late.
“At the end of the day, it’s making sure that you make the playoffs… and if we can turn everything around, we can get there,”
– Galaxy forward Diego Fagundez on staying hopeful despite the rough start.
Meanwhile, Houston (1-4-2, 5 points) is breathing a little easier after finally securing a 1-0 win over LAFC last weekend. The victory snapped a painful five-match winless run and came courtesy of Jack McGlynn’s first goal for the club in the 58th minute.
“I’m confident to hit that from outside of the box… and thank God it went in,”
– Dynamo midfielder Jack McGlynn on his game-winning strike.
Dynamo coach Ben Olsen echoed the sentiment of relief.

“You want to get the first win under your belt, I’m not gonna lie. It’s been a long month,”
– Houston coach Ben Olsen on breaking the winless stretch.
Both teams are looking for traction in a crowded Western Conference race. With Houston hoping to keep the momentum rolling and LA desperate to stop the bleeding, this matchup carries more weight than its early-season record might suggest.
