Red Bulls Aim to Extend Dominance Over Struggling Toronto FC
The New York Red Bulls will look to continue their commanding run over Toronto FC when the two Eastern Conference sides face off Saturday night in Harrison, New Jersey. For over half a decade, the Red Bulls have had Toronto’s number—and they’ll be eager to keep it that way.
New York is unbeaten in its last 11 regular-season meetings with Toronto (8-0-3), a streak that stretches back to 2019. Even more lopsided is the home record: the Red Bulls boast a 17-2-2 all-time advantage at Red Bull Arena against the Canadian club.

Currently riding a three-match unbeaten streak (1-0-2), the Red Bulls are showing defensive consistency, conceding just three goals in their first four matches—the fewest in the Eastern Conference.
“I think these games, especially late, especially at home, we can use the energy of the crowd more and push to get the three points,” said midfielder Peter Stroud, after last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Orlando City FC. The Red Bulls had to come from behind twice to salvage that result.
Toronto Still Searching for Form
It’s been a tough start to the season for Toronto FC (0-3-1), who remain winless through four matches. Last weekend’s 2-1 loss to the Chicago Fire was their first time holding a lead this season, but they couldn’t hold on.
Toronto has now conceded 10 goals—tied for the most in MLS—compared to New York’s stingy three. Defensive frailty and lack of sharpness in midfield have plagued head coach Robin Fraser’s side.
“[The Red Bulls] want you to play in certain areas, and they make it difficult for you when you do,” Fraser said. “We have to be really clean on the ball… very mindful of the passes that we play to each other, certainly in the middle of the field.”
In addition to their form woes, Toronto will also be missing several key contributors. Captain Jonathan Osorio, midfielder Deybi Flores, and forward Tyrese Spicer are all away on international duty. Forward Ola Brynhildsen remains out with a lower-body injury.
Red Bulls Also Short-Handed
New York will be without starting goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, promising defender Omar Valencia, and midfielder Dennis Gjengaar—also due to international call-ups. However, the Red Bulls have shown they can absorb these absences thanks to squad depth and a disciplined defensive structure.
This matchup could be another opportunity for New York to assert itself as a top-tier team in the East, especially against a side that continues to struggle on both ends of the pitch.
