The 2024 Paris Olympics are almost here. The games officially begin on Friday, July 26th, and when they do, the top sports betting websites have Team USA favored to clean up.

The USA is the clear favorite to dominate in Paris, and it’s hard to refute that logic. The only question is just how much they’ll crush the competition, or if any other country offers enough betting value to roll the dice on.

The latest 2024 USA Gold Medals odds have the United States sitting pretty, but is that how the Paris Olympics will unfold? Let’s look at the wagers and odds and come away with some 2024 Paris Olympics betting predictions

Odds for How Many Gold Medals USA Will Win

There are all kinds of ways to bet on the Olympics. One is to try to predict how many gold medals the USA will win in Paris.

Right now they’re favored to tee off on the competition, as BetOnline and other online sportsbooks favor them by quite a bit.

The United States will enter Paris as screaming favorites overall, but it’s admittedly tough to project all of their top competitors together.

Is it possible a handful of USA betting favorites live up to expectations, but others falter? Of course, it’s the Summer Olympics, where the top qualifiers from all over the globe will face off.

That could give way to some unexpected value, but I’ll take a closer look at these betting markets to gauge what the best approach is for Olympics bettors this summer.

Which Country Will Win the Most Gold Medals?

If you’re betting on the 2024 Summer Olympics, your process better start with Team USA.

The United States is heavily favored to win the most gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their price is leaning so hard that way, in fact, that it’s almost not worth betting on them.

That said, it’s important to note just how likely it is that they leave this year’s Olympics with the most gold medals. It’s also good to know why they’re favored in specific events, so you can use that information to bet accurately across the board.

Looking at the 2024 Summer Olympics events, there are a few spots where the US should dominate. One is swimming, where Katie Ledecky and Caeleb Dressel figure to own the competition.

The 27-year old Ledecky has been winning at a high level since 2012, when she claimed gold in the 800-meter freestyle at the Summer Olympics in London. She also claimed gold in both the 800 and 1500-meter freestyle at the 2023 World Championships, and enters Paris on fire after demolishing the competition at the 800-meter freestyles, among other events.

With dominant times across numerous categories, she is a real threat to win gold in numerous competitions in Paris. The same goes for Dressel, who has been on fire in the Olympics with two gold medals at Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and five more in Tokyo in 2020.

If you plan on betting on Olympics swimming, I’d center most of your wagers around these two athletes.

Team USA is just as strong on the track. Noah Lyes (+125) is favored to win the mens’ 100-meter race, while Sha-carri Richardson (-155) is the top 100-meter favorite on the women’s side.

She’s easily one of the more compelling athletes to watch in the Paris Games, seeing as she was disqualified from competing back in 2020.

Sydney McLaughlin (-1100) is also a massive favorite for the 400-meter hurdles, too, while Gabby Thomas (+120) has the best odds for the women’s 200-meter race.

If you’re betting on Olympics basketball, the US men’s team is also a strong contender to win gold, while Team USA has favorites and viable contenders across numerous other categories.

In general, securing the most Olympics gold medals hasn’t been a difficult feat for the United States. In the Summer Olympics specifically, the US has 1,061 total gold medals and the next closest country has 395.

So, realistically, nobody holds a candle to the United States when betting on the Olympics. Of course, their -600 betting odds aren’t super inviting, so you might want to make some alternative bets or just bet on individual events where USA athletes are not overwhelming favorites.

If you do want a second country to wager on, though, I’d go with China (+400) or Belgium (+500000). China has the second best Paris Olympics odds, so they just feel like a logical contender.

They should be in contention with Team USA in numerous competitions. Even though they’re unlikely to deliver, they’re almost certainly Team USA’s top threat.

Of course, Belgium is interesting largely due to astronomical +500000 odds. I doubt they actually obtain the most Paris Olympics gold medals, but they’re the top favorites in a few categories, starting with women’s cycling and men’s field hockey.

That said, the best athletes reside in America. You might not love the -600 price tag, but betting on the USA to get the most gold medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics is the easiest of calls.

Bet: Team USA -600

How Many Gold Medals Will the US Win in Paris?

As noted, I’m not loving the -600 price for most gold medals, just as you probably aren’t. I think you can still back Team USA with confidence, but do it in the form of different Paris Olympics prop bets.

One way is to simply bet on how many gold medals Team USA will win this summer. They are projected for around 121 total medals (more on that in a bit), and they’re favored to win the most, so their total coming in at just under 40 isn’t crazy.

Where are the top Olympics sportsbooks getting that number? How about the fact that the US claimed 39 gold medals in Tokyo at the last Summer Olympics?

Surprisingly enough, they barely beat out Japan (38) in 2020. That said, they have typically had a greater gap (and more gold medals). In 2016 and 2021, the US won 46 and 48 golds, respectively. In fact, even in losing years like 2008, the United States has nabbed 36+ gold medal wins in 10 consecutive Summer Olympics.

The US has also had some amazing showings, winning an insane 83 gold medals in 1984.

I’d be more inclined to lean on recent history, while also factoring in where bookmakers are pricing this wager, and noting the talent level across all of the competitions.

Ultimately, Team USA is a good bet to secure a bunch of medals this summer, and I think 40+ is well within striking distance. The price is rock solid at -145, too.

Bet: Over 39.5 -145

How Many Total Medals Will Team USA Win in 2024?

Betting on the US to obtain the most gold medals feels like a slam dunk. I’m quite optimistic they can clear 40 total gold medals en route to dominating the Paris Olympics, too.

Where it gets tricky is this total medals prop, which sets a pretty high mark at 121.5. The good news? The price is good at -130 and that’s for the best I prefer – the Under.

You can go the other way (Over 121.5 at +100) and get plus money, but that just feels like a ton of medals for one country to win. It’s not that the US isn’t capable, but a lot of things can go wrong and securing 122 medals is asking quite a lot.

Just keep in mind that while the United States paced the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with 39 gold medals, they fell short of this 121.5 mark (113). The year before? They landed on exactly 121. The year before that they had 104.

Obviously this Olympics medal total stems from that awesome run at the Rio Olympics, but I don’t want to aim that high. I think the US does very well in Paris, but I’d be hammering the Under for this wager.

Bet: Under 121.5 -130

Betting on the 2024 Summer Olympics

There is a lot of value to be had when betting on the Paris Olympics. The United States has a plethora of stellar athletes that either should have a real shot at winning a competition, or they’re massive favorites.

When all is said and done, I expect the US to dominate the 2024 Summer Games, which should lead them to the most gold medals. That should help them get the most total medals and I think they clear 40 total gold medals, as well.

Things are looking good for the US (per usual), but I’d stop the hype at the total medals won betting market. I think they’re a good bet to hit 121 or fewer, and I still like the odds associated with that bet.

Overall, you can bet on the 2024 Paris Olympics in a number of ways. I’ve detailed my preferred Summer Olympics bets if we’re only factoring medals won, but my personal choice would be to go after isolated betting markets.
