Quick…when was the last time the Big Ten conference actually had ten teams? That would be 1990 just before Penn State joined the conference to push it to 11 teams. With the addition of four more teams this offseason, the Big Ten now stands at 18 members.  Of those 18 members, the reigning NCAA football national champion calls the Big Ten home. That, of course, is Michigan, which will look a bit different in 2024.

The AAC has been considered the strongest of the Group of 5 conferences, having earned seven of the 10 New Year’s Six bowl game slots since 2014. That could very well happen in 2024 even as the conference loses its best team from a year ago.  No worries, though, as Memphis and head coach Ryan Silverfield look to improve on their 10-3, Liberty Bowl-winning season of a year ago. None of the last three College Football Playoffs included a team from the ACC. That comes after Dabo Swinney and his Clemson Tigers played in six straight CFPs between 2015 and 2020, winning two national championships (2016, 2018) in the process.  2023 ACC champion Florida State finished 13-0 but failed to make last year’s playoffs. A season-ending injury to QB Jordan Travis had a lot to do with the CFP Selection Committee bypassing the Seminoles.
